If you already keep a receipt ledger, comparing it with a bank export can help you focus your month-end document search. Receipt Gap Check is a free browser tool that compares those two CSV files and produces a review list. No account or bank connection is required.
Start with the sample
Open the checker and select Try the sample. With the default three-day date window, the eight example purchases produce three matching records, three needing review and two with no matching record. These are synthetic examples, so you can explore the results before selecting your own files.
Prepare your two exports
Use a bank or card CSV containing purchases and a CSV ledger describing receipts or purchase invoices you actually have. An expense list without document information is not a reliable receipt inventory. This version cannot read PDFs or receipt photos. If those are your only records, it cannot create the receipt ledger for you.
Keep your original exports. In working copies, remove transfers, repayments, refunds and other non-purchases. If your bank represents purchases as negative amounts, select verified purchases first and convert only those amounts to positive values.
Each file needs a unique, nonblank row ID, date, merchant, total amount and currency. Use dates such as 2026-09-15, positive amounts such as 24.50 without currency symbols or thousands separators, and uppercase currency codes such as CAD. Save as UTF-8 CSV; the limit is 5 MB and 10,000 data rows per file. Column headings can differ: select the corresponding fields after loading.
Check, review and download
Load both files, confirm the column mappings, choose the permitted date difference and select Check receipt coverage. Correct any reported input errors first. The results use three statuses:
- Matching record: a unique pair agrees on amount, currency and merchant within the date window. Merchant comparison ignores case and extra spaces.
- Needs review: competing candidates, shared receipts or different merchant descriptions require a closer look.
- No matching record: no candidate met the rules in these files. That does not prove the receipt is missing.
Check exceptions against your original records, then select Download full report to save the CSV. A match confirms agreement between records, not the document itself. The checker does not combine receipts, split payments or convert currencies.
File contents are processed locally in your browser, without an AI API or server upload. Clear files and results when finished; downloaded reports remain on your device. The surrounding website may retain ordinary access logs.
